Tokyo Day 1 (19 March 2015, Thursday)

Arrived in Tokyo via an overnight flight so we were super exhausted the morning we arrived but nevertheless, extremely excited! Didn't bother resting, checked into the hotel and headed out immediately. First stop was a tiny ramen shop in the mall next to our hotel. We stayed at New Otani Inn, just in front of Osaki JR station. It wasn't a fantastic hotel but t'was extremely convenient to have a JR station just outside so I'm not complaining :)

It's a company trip so the first 4 days we were in the hotel and the last 2 days (Min & I extended our stay) we checked into an Airbnb apartment which was a disaster but I'll get to that in Day 4's post. Paid about SGD 650 for air tickets and 4 days of hotel stay since our company covered the rest - kinda cheap for a Tokyo trip I'll say! My total expenses for the trip was close to SGD 1200, for those of you intending to visit Tokyo and require a rough gauge on how much to bring.

Highlights of Day 1 -

Asakusa:
Sensoji Temple
Sumida Park
Tokyo Skytree

It is said to bring luck or wash the bad fortune away if you get some of the smoke on you. I literally stood there for 2 entire minutes trying to get smoke all over hahahaha kiasu

For those who received a good fortune, you can keep it. For those like me, who received a half fortune or bad fortune, you are advised to tie it here.

Sakuras bloomed early!!! This is Sumida park. We just happened to chance upon it while exploring. For those who wish to visit a park just for the sakura flowers, I would recommend Ueno park. Our colleagues went there and it was really pretty. We didn't have the time to visit it so yup!

Standing sushi bar after shopping at Shibuya 109, one of the popular malls in Shibuya. I wouldn't recommend you waste your time there because their clothes are solely catered to females and are very overpriced. Nothing great either. This standing sushi bar, however, serves awesome sushi! Probably our favourite dining place during our trip. Not only was the sushi fresh and yummy, it was rather cheap. 16 pieces for 1500 yen (SGD 17) ^-^
